Four cork mats in a soft olive stripe, doing the quiet job cork has always done well: taking the heat out of a dish before it reaches the table. They sit flat, they do not slide, and they wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Made by LIGA in Cornwall, from cork stripped by hand from the cork oak — a bark that grows back and is harvested again roughly every nine years. The stripe is deliberately undemanding: it gets on with whatever china you already own.
