What is inside a Bloom
Three pieces, and a shape they have to make together. The pieces change with what we can source; the shape does not.
Every Bloom is built to the same three-part structure:
- Something for the skin — a naturally derived skincare or cosmetics piece, from UK wholesale or a maker whose products are already on the GB market.
- Something restorative for the bath — a soak, a melt, a bar, a body oil. The part of the box that asks the recipient to slow down for half an hour.
- A considered object — the piece that is still there in a year. A small ceramic, a folded cloth, something for a desk or a windowsill.
Which pieces arrive is the mystery. The structure is not, and that is what makes the surprise safe to give: you know the territory the gift lands in, and you know none of it is filler.
How a composition is decided
The three pieces are not picked independently and posted in the same box. They are chosen against each other, which is a slower way to work and the reason we do not take orders for particular items.
In practice that means a scent that does not fight the one already in the box; a colour palette that looks like it was intended when the tissue comes off; and a balance between something used up in a fortnight and something kept. A box of three good things that argue with each other is a worse gift than a box of three that agree.
It also means a Bloom is allowed to hold three pieces rather than four. Nothing goes in unless it earns its place, and padding a box to make the count look generous is the exact habit this brand exists to avoid.
The arithmetic on a £42 box
The contents of every Petalby mystery gift box must be worth at least 1.4 times the price. On a Bloom that is £58.80, and typically nearer £60. It is checked per composition, against what the three pieces actually retail for, before the box is packed.
It is a smaller number than this category usually claims, and that is deliberate. A £50 box advertising £380 of contents is asking you to believe a multiple of more than seven.
