Wool, a barbed needle and repetition: you work the fibres until they hold each other, and after an hour or two there is an owl. British and merino wool in the colours the bird actually is, with step-by-step photographs rather than diagrams — nothing to sew, nothing to glue.
Finished it stands about fifteen centimetres. The box holds the wool, two felting needles in a case, the instructions and a gift box; the foam working block is a separate item. The needles are genuinely sharp, so the maker rates this for ages fourteen and up, or with an adult alongside. Packed by hand in a Dorset studio.
