The matching lead to the Scotasay collar: green herringbone Harris Tweed on the outside, navy cotton scattered with white stars on the inside. A metre long, twenty-two millimetres wide, with a metal trigger hook at one end and a hand-sized loop at the other.
Handmade in Britain, with a nylon core running through the tweed so the cloth is the look and the core is the strength. The Harris Tweed Authority label sits on the seam. Bought with the collar it reads as a set; bought alone it still looks like something chosen rather than grabbed.
