Sophie Conran Trowel — Burgon & Ball
£20.99
A short trowel with a deeply dished head, which matters more than it sounds: the dish carries a proper measure of soil to the hole instead of half of it to the path. Mirror-polished stainless steel, so it comes out of the shed in March looking much as it did in October.
The handle is waxed FSC beech with a brass ferrule and the maker's mark etched into it. 26.5cm long, 8cm across, boxed for giving, and covered by a ten-year guarantee against manufacturing faults. Made by Burgon & Ball, who have been making garden tools in Sheffield since 1730.
